Update 3: El Lazca, Zeta leader, killed. SEMAR confirms


Mexico, (AP). – According to media reports Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano, alias “El Lazca”, may have fallen. He is leader and founder of Los Zetas.

According to social networks Twitter and journalist Joaquin Lopez Doriga, “the Lazca” was captured after a confrontation with Mexican Marines in Sabinas municipality in the state of Coahuila.

Newer reports mention he was killed.

Update 2:

A confrontation between elements of the Navy and suspected members of Los Zetas occurred in Sabinas, Coahuila where apparently, one of the major kingpins of the criminal organization fell.

According to reports from local and federal authorities, the operation was directed against Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano, alias “El Lazca”.

The clash occurred on the road from Sabinas to Progreso, Coahuila, killing two suspected members of the criminal organization.

Until tonight, Navy personnel was working on the identification of the bodies, trying to confirm whether one would be “The Lazca” authorities from the National Security cabinet said.

However, the questioned officials, did not contradict that the “top-level member of the Zetas” is dead.

The Mexican Navy reports that after completing relevant forensic evidence it is concluded that one of the bodies belongs to Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano.



Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano, known as “El Lazca,” deserted from the Mexican army in 1999 and formed Los Zetas with three other soldiers, all members of an elite special operations unit, becoming the armed wing of the Gulf drug cartel.

After several years on the payroll of the Gulf cartel, Los Zetas, considered Mexico’s most violent criminal organisation, went into the drug business on their own account and now control several lucrative territories.

According to previous unofficial reports he was in Europe, sick, and not involved in the operation of the cartel.
