Police say a Springfield man told them he was on a synthetic drug known as “bath salts” when he “slammed” a metal bed frame down on a police dog.

According to a probable cause statement, police were called to a home on South Missouri Avenue on Nov. 25 to respond to a man who had been “screaming, breaking windows out of the residence, and throwing objects.”

BERNARDS TWP. – An Essex County man was found to possess a large amount of heroin after a motor vehicle stop on Interstate Route 78 early Thursday morning, Nov. 21, according to police.

The man, Thomas Forniel, 30, of Newark, was traveling in a 2006 Nissan Maxima on I-78 east at 2:40 a.m. when police Sgt. Mark Leopold stopped him for a motor vehicle violation, police said.

Whether it’s sniffing for drugs or apprehending a suspect, two new canine deputies are about to help take a bite out of crime in Cass County.

Loki, a 22-month old German Shepherd, and Champ, a 3-year-old pup of the same breed, received certification this week to become working K-9 deputies for the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Their handlers, Cpl. Nick Sack and Deputy Steve Valentich, have spent the last five weeks training with the canines. [...]

At barely four months old, Kala and Kirpy arrived in Yuma.

Two men were arrested after one of them led police on a chase before he was taken down by a K-9 on Monday.

Daniel Levi Brown, 23, who doesn’t have a permanent address in Sioux Falls, was arrested for simple assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest, obstruction and fleeing. ATHENS, Ohio – Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly is offering unusual advice to drug addicts after he says there’s a confirmed case of the drug Krokodil in his county.

Krokodil is a drug originally from Russia that turns a user’s skin into scaly, scabbed-over flesh and can lead to death.

(Long Island, NY) The East End Drug Task Force has arrested a Flanders man and seized 400 grams of powdered cocaine, and two handguns, one of them loaded.

Bedford, Mass — The Bedford Police department made what chief Robert Bongiorno called a “great arrest” and a “total team effort,” on Nov. 13, engaging in a dogged pursuit across rough terrain, setting up a perimeter and holding it for an hour, and searching through thick woods before slapping the handcuffs on a man accused of exposing himself at the Whole Foods on The Great Road.
