Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead Sunday of an apparent drug overdose at his Manhattan apartment.

Police responded to the 46-year-old’s apartment in the West Village shortly after 11 a.m., police sources told FoxNews.com.

A friend found his body in the apartment and phoned police. Hoffman was alone in his bathroom when he was discovered with a heroin-filled needle in his arm, law enforcement sources said.

PITTSBURGH —Rocco, the Pittsburgh police K-9 who battled bravely while enduring two surgeries and several blood transfusions after he was stabbed in a scuffle with a wanted man, has died.

The 8-year-old German shepherd went into cardiac arrest Thursday evening and died at 6:17 p.m. He had been a member of the bureau since 2008.

Aik von der Berger-Ranch, “Aik,” a German Shepherd, was born on November 2nd, 2001, in Jena, Germany, in a litter of 9 pups. DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — A Davie County deputy and his K-9 were shot while conducting a raid to apprehend a suspect Wednesday evening.

The K-9, a Russian Shepherd named “Gorky” died Thursday.

The deputy who was injured has been identified as Christopher Fleming.

Davie County Sheriff Andy Stokes said in a press conference Thursday that he shot Fleming in the shoulder by accident during the incident.

Officers went to a residence to serve a warrant on 19-year-old Nicholas Scott Tilley around 4 p.m. in reference to a suspected home invasion.

MOCKSVILLE, N.C. – A Davie County Sheriff Deputy and a K9 were shot Wednesday evening in Davie County.

According to Davie County EMS, Deputy Chris Fleming and a K9 were shot during a hostage situation.

Authorities say the incident began after deputies tried to serve a warrant to the suspect.

The suspect ran off to a house on South Angell Road with two hostages inside.

RICHLAND COUNTY — A growing number of meth lab discoveries has Richland County officials worried about public safety.

In the past two years, the number of meth labs discovered by law enforcement in Richland County has more than tripled — from seven in 2011 to 23 last year. And no one is sure how many other labs are in operation but haven’t been discovered.
